Get I-99 back in proper order!
This proposal would put I-99 back in the proper order by going along the Atlantic coast. The general idea would be to have it start at Myrtle Beach, head generally through Wilmington, NC and Virginia Beach, then meet I-95 at Wilmington, DE (a route proposed for possible I-101). The situation is that Bud Shuster hijacked it for the US 220 corridor in central Pennsylvania. This prompted me to create the following signs (left: roadside, right: freeway guide BGS).
Preferred remedy for this could be to extend I-83 north from Harrisburg to Rochester and I-84 west from Wilkes-Barre to Bedford, as the map below shows.
The signage for the road as appears below can satisfy Shuster’s urge for a 99 with an additional shield for PA 99. Example below for Altoona exit.
This assumes that laws can be amended or repealed. However, in case the I-99 designation is set in concrete, (lol) here is an alternative. Extend I-99 south as follows: east along the PA-pike to Harrisburg, head southeast along PA 283, US 30, PA 41 and DE 7 to Wilmington. Then follow the Wilmington-Dover-Virginia Beach-Wilmington-Myrtle Beach corridor. Crossing Interstates are common east of the Mississippi. The map below shows the route.
The following signs eastbound from Bedford could appear as below:
